Don’t forget the Careline Christmas Coffee Morning this Friday from 10-12.30pm in the foyer of St Oswald’s Hospital. Come along and join us for a warm drink and mince pie – everyone welcome!

We have some great stalls lined up with handmade jewellery and crafts, cakes and preserves – why not do some Christmas shopping while you’re here? There will be a tombola, guess the weight of the Christmas cake and name the bear among others. Plus the ever popular carols around the tree, from the Ashbourne Singers.

Our raffle tickets are still available for sale from the Main Reception at St Oswald’s Hospital or will be available to buy during the coffee morning. We have some amazing hampers and other prizes on offer – certainly worth a £1 per ticket! The winning tickets will be drawn towards the end of the morning.

Would you like to win this beautiful Christmas hamper?

The winning tickets will be drawn at the Careline Christmas Coffee Morning on Friday 4th December from 10-12.30pm in the foyer of the hospital. All proceeds in aid of Careline.

Fundraising is an important part of the work that we do at Careline because although we are lucky to receive some funding, this can never be guaranteed. This year we are extremely fortunate to have the continued support of M&S Ashbourne, who have given us the opportunity to bag pack at least one weekend every month until April. Last year this enabled us to raise over £3000!

We are looking for more help on the following dates:
Saturday 5th December 1-3pm
Sunday 6th December 1-3pm

Saturday 19th December 1-3pm
Sunday 20th December 11-1pm or 1-3pm

We always bag pack in pairs, so you wouldn’t be on your own. Or why not bring a friend along too? Please gives us a call if you”d like to find out more on 01335 210353.

Did you know that it’s Befriending Week next week? Have you ever considered becoming a befriending volunteer?  If the answer’s “yes”, then why not pop into Ashbourne Library on Tuesday 3rd November from 10am -3pm and find out more?

Careline and Readycall are teaming up for the day and will be on hand to talk about the different types of befriending roles that we offer locally – you might be interested in having a friendly chat over the phone or you may want to help someone with their weekly shop. With just a few spare hours each month, you can make a huge difference to someone’s life – somebody who may not otherwise speak to anyone else all day or may not be able to get out of the house without help.

Becoming a Befriender is really easy but enormously rewarding!

A huge thank you to local supporters Ellie Woodward and Doreen Watt who between them raised almost £300 for Careline, by completing the Ashbourne Half Marathon recently. Well done ladies!
Ellie Woodward completes the Ashbourne Half Marathon for Careline 2015
Ellie told us “I’ve chosen to run for Careline as its the charity we support at work (Ashbourne Marks & Spencer’s Simply Foods), and I’ve always been passionate about supporting local charities. My Grandpa lived on his own for over 20 years therefore I know how valuable it can be having a person to be able to share things with and have a chat. I’m 22 and have lived in Ashbourne my whole life, I’ve always loved running so its great to be able to do something I enjoy whilst raising money for such a worthwhile cause!”

Fantastic news – M&S Ashbourne has once again chosen Careline as its local charity! A huge thank you to them – we’re absolutely thrilled that their staff have recognised what a difference our telephone befriending service makes to the local community and have chosen to support us!
We’ll keep you up to date with our fundraising plans and please do keep an eye out for our collection buckets which will be in store for the next 6 months. Every penny counts and goes directly towards keeping our valuable service going.

Join Careline this Saturday as we help St Oswald’s Hospital to celebrate it’s fifth anniversary.
The hospital will throw open its doors to the public on Saturday, September 19 between 11am and 3pm. It promises to be a fun day including an art competition, ‘bake-off’, a car boot sale, Ashbourne Town Band and refreshments.Come along to see us on the Careline stand where we’ll be selling raffle tickets and delicious homemade produce.
The hospital was officially opened on May 6, 2011 by Prince Edward and offers a range of services including physiotherapy, podiatry and a walk-in clinic at weekends.
The birthday celebrations are free to attend, and will take place at the hospital in Clifton Road.

Careline Supporter Dominic Delf and a group of intrepid friends have taken on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in aid of Careline. The team, made up of Dominic, Ciara Delf, Tom Delf, Gavin Delf, Peter Douglas and Michael Pettingale,  took the challenge on 15 August which involved climbing the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent (691m) , Whernside (728m) and Ingleborough (723m), all in under 12 hours! These peaks form part of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

We’re enormously grateful to Dominic and his team for taking this on for Careline. Please support them by making a donation on our Virgin Money Giving Page: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/charity-web/charity/displayEventDetails.action?eventId=22688&charityId=1005884&invocation=evt0050

We had a lovely time at our Strawberry Tea recently. The sun shone, giving us beautiful views over Dovedale, with everyone enjoying the opportunity to catch up with old friends or to meet new ones over afternoon tea.

The birthday girl and boy, Theresa and John

Talented young local trumpeter Josh Short delighted us with some vintage tunes, as well as playing an impromptu “Happy Birthday” to Theresa and John, whose birthdays it was that day. We were also joined by some special guests including Derbyshire County Councillor and long time Careline supporter Steve Bull; as well as 3 representatives from M&S Ashbourne, who have helped us to raise a significant amount of money this year. Pat Arnold, Site Manager at St Oswald’s Hospital was able to join us  for a cup of tea too.

Everyone agreed what a super afternoon it had been!
